Mission and Purpose
The CREATE Academy started in 2011 at Grant Union High School. The mission of the academy is to ensure that all students are eligible for a 4 year college. While all students may not choose to attend a 4 year university, it is important that they have options. The academy was started by Dr. Kadhir Raja. Dr. Raja is a math teacher at Grant High and was also 2011 California State Teacher of the Year. This academy has 8 teachers. The attendance and behavior specialist who has dedicated his heart to helping the students in the academy is Jaime Sanchez.
The objective of the academy is to uplift some of the most at risk students at Grant High to success. During its first year, the CREATE academy took 150 students who had struggled academically in the 8th grade and whose average incoming GPA was below a 1.0 GPA.
Results
As a result of instructional excellence and student accountability provided by the CREATE academy staff, the majority of the students have risen to success and earned a GPA between a 2.5 and 4.0. The students have also performed exceptionally well on their standardized district-wide assessments in Math and Science.
